Textile Ply Overlap Splice Inspection

Splice Overlap Monitoring is the latest system developed by Gislotica’s engineers, designed to provide tire manufacturers worldwide with an extremely reliable monitoring system for controlling the quality of overlapped splices in textile plies.

Using a pair of high-tech cameras, this system – which draws on expertise in machine vision – continuously monitors both edges of a textile fabric as it moves along the cutting machine’s conveyor belt. It detects approaching seams, captures their image in real time and sends valuable information to the cutting machine’s control system regarding the threads in the seam area, such as:

– The number of strands (top and bottom layers);
– The diameter of each strand;
– The roundness of each strand;
– The distance between the strands;
– The length of the splice.

All this is achieved through the use of high-quality built-in lighting that ensures ambient-free image capture, servo-driven industrial CMOS cameras for focusing according to variations in layer width, and a superb algorithm on an ultra-fast computer (PC) to process each passing seam.

In line with its tailor-made philosophy, Gislotica can design the interface with the textile cutting machine’s PLC or IPC (HMI, TCP/IP communication, etc.) to best suit the customer’s needs, and can also build the entire mechanical assembly to fit the textile cutting machine’s structure correctly.
